Smoggy Top Ten

The weather is drabby and smoggy here in Utah.
Let us brighten up things with a top ten.

SUCCULENTS
i don't remember where i found this picture, but it is such a great representation of the variation found in succulent plants... so whimsical.

HOUSE BEAUTIFUL
My brother sends this to me every month. I'm busy carpooling, noisy kids in the car, reach into the mailbox, and there it is... steal a moment with a tall ice water and a bag of salt and vinegar chips and cuddle up to reading the house beautiful smorgasbord.

PICTURES
I love old pictures, but especially when they're of my ancestors. The clothes are awesome, the expressions timeless, and the rarity of that moment in time captured is priceless.

Boyack's

William Jairus Keith

A PLACE
A quiet place that is my own to create and be me.

REMOTE CONTROL
My favorite part about this remote...
the skip forward button.
I can watch shows in half the time.

A MOMENT
A surprise when I turn my head and see my wee baby pulling books out of the basket and reading with chubby legs and all.

FOODS OF INTEREST
silver sprinkles

chocolate chip cookies

veggie pizza

SHARPIE PENS
I am a spazz at taking notes. I have pages and pages of doodles, notes, names, important and non important info. I love these sharpie pens- they are bold, but not too thick... sturdy, yet soft, and always dependable... I sound like I'm describing Chris.
OLIVER'S WIT
"Mom, I can't believe I'm alive, and I can't believe that this is a real place."
-
"If Tade goes to heaven, then we get a dog!"
-
"Remember when mom used to not let us watch Spongebob?
That was a nightmare!"
-
"Now, mother of mercy, now will you work?
It's working! Chinese apple here I come!"
-
"Mom, it's really fun to be alive."
MUSIC
Among being a note taking spazz, I am also a music spazz. I love creating mixes to fit my mood. The following are the subdued mixes I created. I have some more upbeat jazzy music also in rotation, but these more mellow lists seem to fit the weather and time.

Kings of Convenience- I Don't Know What I Can Save You From
Sarah McLachlan- Dirty Little Secrets

Darth Sara

I just finished a "not so nice on my end phone call" with my significant other. As is our life, he is working hard in the potato state, while i labor alone in motherdom here in the state of trendy designer jeans and blinged out jogging suits, but that is another post. I feel bad because I answered the phone in my "Darth Sara" mode, and just complained about my day....
Tade cried ALL day
I gained five pounds
I'm tired
The kids won't go to bed
There's stacks of homework to be done
The house won't stay clean
I need money
Tade had three poopy diapers
darn that xbox
Tade wants my nah nah's
I don't want to fix dinner tonight
I'm tired
*
Not even an unusually bad day by any terms, but for some reason I just had to be negative and vent to him.
*
oh, and just as I'm writing this, my angel neighbors who collect my mail and put out my garbage, just brought over heavenly chocolate chip cookies...
*
i'm a loser.
*
I'd like to publicly thank my husbandness for listening patiently to me whine on the phone while he apologetically, and sincerely said he was sorry for the situation we're in. He sat and lovingly listened while I rambled off my stresses and gently comforted me. I am sorry Papa Bear.
*
Let me paint a picture for your bedtime dreams tonight dear lover... Let's just imagine that I was in a really cheerful mood. Let's imagine that the house is sparkling, I am smiling and not scowling, the kids are obeying and being repectful, and I look like her right now...

thanks for the cookies willsons...
i feel better already.
the five pounds will have to weight...
i mean wait.

Don't let the turkeys get you down.

January 20th 2009 was a day that will hold great importance in history.
It was really moving to watch the emotions in the crowd, and I'm anxious to see what lies in the future for us all.
***
There were so many great things about this Inauguration for President Obama;
First, one of my favorite things was the abundance of flags. The stars and stripes are so regal and symbolic. I forget how much tradition and honor is seeped into special occasions like this- the order in which people are presented, the trumpets sounding, the way things are said... it makes me proud to be part of such a rich heritage.
*
Next, what an opportunity for people watching. It's always fun to try and read the expressions on peoples faces as they are ushered to their places. This is one of those rare instances where all parties meet together to show their support in swearing in the President of the USA, no matter what their beliefs are.
*
I thought Michelle Obama looked awesome, as did her daughters thanks to Isabel Toledo and J Crew. A little spice of fashion will be fun to watch these next few years, even if its subdued and classy...it was refreshing to see her walk out in a cheerful yellow dress... hopeful yellow.
*
I loooooved the musical number "Air and Simple Gifts" by John Williams....it was divine! My other favorite part of the program was the poem "Praise Song for the Day" by Elizabeth Alexander. The style in which she read it took a little getting use to, but I loved the words.
*
I am thankful and appreciative for the time and service that President Bush gave. I believe we are all too quick to criticize someones job when we have no idea what it's like to be in his shoes. Imagine the immense responsibility to have the nation on your shoulders. To have others making decisions, but be the one sole person to take responsibility and have fingers pointed at you when things go wrong. He did so many good things, he is a good person. He may not have been an eloquent public speaker, and he definitely made some mistakes. Are any of us perfect? I feel very strongly that a persons personal life has great importance and affect on their public life. I get so worked up when I hear people say, "who cares what they do behind closed doors". It is precisely what they do behind closed doors, when no one is looking, that makes them who they are. If their character, friends, or integrity is in question, then how can we trust them.
*
My frustrations with peoples past judgements have opened my mind in looking on to the new president with full support. He hasn't done the job yet, so he has a clean slate. I'm excited for the hope and unity he wants to bring. Barack Obama now bares the weight of being President, and with his cool, calm composure, I pray that our countrys values and beliefs stay intact.

CHEERS TO "NO DRAMA OBAMA"!

end scene

a year ago today i posted my very first family birthday tribute.
today is my sister cheri's birthday,
the sister that started it all.
happy birthday cheri:)
*
this concludes the "shout outs" folks.

most of my birthday spotlights were late.
some were written flashier than others.
what does one expect
when i am digging deep within myself to
write lovely, fresh and unique things about
the people i love most...
all 34 of them. (i think)
*
it was fun to ponder over
the qualities i love about each
sibling, parent, or in-law...
and as i look over how richly blessed i am to have such a big family,
i know that we are in eachothers lives
for a reason.
*
good tidings of merry candle blowing and wish making
to all of you in the year to come.
you can expect a "happy birthday, i love you"
posted on your facebook wall this year...
but i love you all the same:)
PHEW!

(we missed you heather!)

what's the verdict?

sadie jane candy cane,

What a dear you are.
You used to drive a bumper-less car.
Now you take care of sick people.
An official member of the nursing society,
I’m in awe of your medical memory and propriety.
Sometimes I pinch your cute little bum,
Too bad you don’t still wear wranglers, CRUMB!
What a cute newlywed wife you are
In fact I heard jeff say that he
Thinks you’re the hottest in the universe, CHAR!
I like to mimic your hand over bangs sweep,
I only wish I was as cool and hip as you.
Maybe someday I’ll know name brand jeans like…
Citizen, miss me, rock revival, silver, !it, big star and jordache?
You’re so impressed that I just listed those, thank you buckle.com.
That last sentence didn’t rhyme,
But that’s okay cause you’re a sweetie all the time.
What a good student you’ve been,
I’ve never seen someone work so hard, RIMMY LIN KIN!
Now you’re going to work in labor and delivery,
While jeffy finishes school,
Make him good meals to eat and all will be cool.
I’m lucky to have you as a sister,
You spread happy sunshine beams wherever you go,
I love your innocence, concern and charm, YO!
No one has as many facebook friends as you,
And I believe deep down
that you know each one, its TRUE!
You make everyone feel special and loved,

I wish you a happy birthday my dear
“sexy sadie”!
i would want you as my nurse anyday!!
love you little sis!

with love, from Friska

Emily Ann, my sister, my froska, had a very momentous birthday of the big 30!
A day with EMMA on her birthday.

First, I roll up to your front door wearing my roller skates. On my shoulder is a ghetto blaster playing Milli Vanilli. We both deck out in leg warmers, keds, rainbow head bands, charm necklaces, jean jackets, girbaud’s, and banana republic tees... things we couldn't afford in our childhood:) I hand you a vintage esprit tote bag filled with the very best black licorice, a jar of dill pickles, wet n’ wild lip liner, a vhs of girls just wanna have fun, and a cassette of all our favorite songs with commentary in between, by us of course.
*
We would make up a few dance routines in the drive way, and then we would go thrift store shopping for some amazing scarves and rockin’ shoes. I would find a bejeweled butterfly vase, and you would find a beautifully painted carousel horse for lily.
*
Outside the shop, Christian Bale would be waiting to escort us to an impromptu musical in the street, followed by a really fast ride in his bat mobile.
*
Lunch time would be a soup, salad, and sandwich combo at an all organic café situated in an artsy part of town where we could sit on the sidewalk and watch people walk by. Obijah music would be playing so we could picture people walking to the beat. For dessert we would go to the gas station and buy penny candies.
*
Jessie would put on a comedy show while doing skateboarding stunts and we would laugh until we cried.
*
Next, a hike up into the canyon is in order. Deep in the forest we would find a secret colony of fairies having tea parties on toad stools and David Bowie would jump out of a hollow tree and serenade us into the night….Lillia would do ballet in the moonlight and melt our hearts…until Robert Cromeans jumps out of another hollow tree and announces that you are the next artistic director of Paul Mitchell.
*
To celebrate, we gather up our family and friends to fly to Japan for authentic cuisine while firecrackers go off in the streets and world peace is at long last absolute. Jessie would present you with your own whole foods store with a children's section full of books and cooking demonstration mommy and me classes.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROSKA!!
LOVE YA!

idaho

we are moving to this place
this place is beautiful.
the delicate snow covered branches
as if God grabbed the earth
and dipped the trees in crystal frosting.
juxtaposition of
sparkling diamonds in the sunlight
but
bitter bites on my cheeks
and the slap of wind in my eyes.
that's what we'll be getting in the cold months.

in the summertime,
we can drive past fields of
honey soldiers in rows and rows and rows
slowly swaying with the bright breeze.
chippy paint barns lean
almost a sneeze could collapse them.
and nearby,
cows give you that judgemental look
and dogs chase you till you wrap around
the world and back again.

gingerbread and turkey bones

yearly vanderville gingerbread contest

our girls are anatomically correct.

rach and dev win...
again.
********************************
thanks dad
for sharing your coveted turkey leg
with my one year old.

my gross-out-ness of meat googlies
is lost on him.

peace out 2008
