Don't let the turkeys get you down.

January 20th 2009 was a day that will hold great importance in history.
It was really moving to watch the emotions in the crowd, and I'm anxious to see what lies in the future for us all.

There were so many great things about this Inauguration for President Obama;
First, one of my favorite things was the abundance of flags. The stars and stripes are so regal and symbolic. I forget how much tradition and honor is seeped into special occasions like this- the order in which people are presented, the trumpets sounding, the way things are said... it makes me proud to be part of such a rich heritage.

Next, what an opportunity for people watching. It's always fun to try and read the expressions on peoples faces as they are ushered to their places. This is one of those rare instances where all parties meet together to show their support in swearing in the President of the USA, no matter what their beliefs are.

I thought Michelle Obama looked awesome, as did her daughters thanks to Isabel Toledo and J Crew. A little spice of fashion will be fun to watch these next few years, even if its subdued and classy...it was refreshing to see her walk out in a cheerful yellow dress... hopeful yellow.

I loooooved the musical number "Air and Simple Gifts" by John Williams....it was divine! My other favorite part of the program was the poem "Praise Song for the Day" by Elizabeth Alexander. The style in which she read it took a little getting use to, but I loved the words.

I am thankful and appreciative for the time and service that President Bush gave. I believe we are all too quick to criticize someones job when we have no idea what it's like to be in his shoes. Imagine the immense responsibility to have the nation on your shoulders. To have others making decisions, but be the one sole person to take responsibility and have fingers pointed at you when things go wrong. He did so many good things, he is a good person. He may not have been an eloquent public speaker, and he definitely made some mistakes. Are any of us perfect? I feel very strongly that a persons personal life has great importance and affect on their public life. I get so worked up when I hear people say, "who cares what they do behind closed doors". It is precisely what they do behind closed doors, when no one is looking, that makes them who they are. If their character, friends, or integrity is in question, then how can we trust them.

My frustrations with peoples past judgements have opened my mind in looking on to the new president with full support. He hasn't done the job yet, so he has a clean slate. I'm excited for the hope and unity he wants to bring. Barack Obama now bares the weight of being President, and with his cool, calm composure, I pray that our countrys values and beliefs stay intact.

CHEERS TO "NO DRAMA OBAMA"!

You said everything well... This is the only thing I will add. I am so tired of everyone blaming the Bush Administration and making excuses for Obama. Oh well it's because of this..... BULL CRAP! Obama is not going to make everything better by the weekend. I feel bad for the man because he has HIGH expectations to live up to!

I loved this. Thank you for your eloquence and your patriotism. The night of the convention, I called my aunt in Ga. and we talked and laughed and cried over this amazing day in history.
We grew up in a small town in N. Ga. that was totally racist, but her dad/my grandpa was not. His generation saw lynchings and the KKK, but because he was befriended as a child by an old gentleman who had been a slave, he had a different outlook. On inauguration day I was glued to the t.v. -everything was so beautiful - esp. the music by YoYo Ma and Ithzak Perlman. THere was such joy on Ma's face. Heaven must sound like that. (and wouldn't we all like to sound that lovely whether in a studio or out!)
They all need our prayers for wisdom and direction.
